Visualization design before | after AI

AI is transforming the design space of data visualization. This presentation discusses how the importance of text, narrative, and human context have long been overlooked. Building on prior work integrating text and visualization, it examines how large language models (LLMs) enable new approaches, from embedding text in visual structures to supporting interactive analysis of unstructured content. With AI influencing every stage of the visualization process, the boundaries of what constitutes a visualization are rapidly expanding.
